To the Editor:
The most persistent argument against health care reform - that it costs too much, and we can't afford it - is also the most illogical. We're paying for it now. We're just paying in the most inefficient way possible.
If someone has a heart attack and the emergency service is called, the ambulance doesn't drive away if they can't show an insurance card. They're taken to the emergency room and cared for no matter what. And if we did drive away and leave them to die we'd be a barbaric society.
Sincerely,
Gene Eplett
