Remember When We Didn’t Care About Celebrities?

Remember When We Didn’t Care About Celebrities?

Opinion: Military member using laptopTo the Editor:

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the daily sacrifices of our men and women in the armed forces and their families as well. In the celebrity-obsessed U.S. culture at least, we too often take our freedoms for granted and don’t understand they come at a price. I often think back to the days immediately following the Sept. 11 attacks and recall how silly our obsessions were with pop culture icons, musicians and celebrity gossip. Remember how the cult of personality media coverage disappeared for a year or so as we understood who the real heroes and people to be looked up to were?

Thank you to our troops and their families. Some of us think about you daily.

Sincerely,
