To the Editor:
Suicide is a national health problem that takes an enormous toll of families, friends, co-workers, schools and the entire community. Sadly, every minute of every day, someone attempts to take their own life and every 15 minutes someones dies by suicide.
We need to know more about suicide and ways to prevent. We also need to help those left behind, the survivors of suicide loss.
After the suicide of our son, Chase, my husband and I have been on a mission to help spread the word about warning signs and help reduce the stigma that surrounds mental illness and suicide.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will conduct one of their “Out of the Darkness Community Walks to raise much needed funds for research and education. On Sunday, September 30th, this event will be held at Kensingston Metro Park in Milford Michigan. This walk represents Livingston and Oakland counties
It will be the 10th annual event in our area…please check out this event at; www.outofthedarkness.org or www.afsp.org
