To the Editor:
The Stanford University meta-analysis of the nutritional value of organic food compared to food raised with chemical fertilizer and pesticides has the extreme limitation of considering only two things: nutritional value and pesticide residues.
How we raise food impacts water and soil health and given how many life forms inhabit both soils and water the health issues of organic agriculture go far beyond the capacity of any one meta analysis to study. The health of our planet including the rivers and oceans has intimate ties to how we humans grow our food. Our health in turn depends on our planet’s health.
