Letter to the Editor:
Anybody who uses that “$716 billion ‘cut’ from Medicare” line is a water–carrier for the health insurance companies. Specifically, for the companies that are being overpaid for taking care of healthy Medicare recipients they’ve cherry-picked for their “Medicare advantage” programs. That money could be saved without cutting anything but the huge bonuses the executives of those insurance companies enjoy.
Putting it in those terms may be a bit confrontational for Obama’s style, but I’m disappointed he didn’t make the point in last night’s debate.
