To the Editor:
Bears Lives Matter.
I am writing in response to the senseless killing of a sow (female, mother) bear I am assuming by the Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries Department. Shame on you all!
Although I do have sympathy for the miseducated lady that was attacked, you should always be aware of your surroundings at all times when in the woods. Never run. Predators like to catch things when they run! I also am assuming that as this was a sow bear, she had cubs and was only doing what every mother should do, protect her cubs.
The lady in question needs to thank God because that was a warning and she has been given a second chance. Usually when a black bear attacks you do not survive and are eaten.
Please, please educate yourself as to where you are going (terrain, climate ,etc.) before hiking, biking or just enjoying the outdoors. We are in their world when we get out into nature, not their fault, but they suffer in the end.
